Several European countries will recognize the State of Palestine by the end of May

RIYADH – The European Union’s (EU) high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, Josep Borrell, said on Monday that several member states of the bloc should recognize the State of Palestine by the end of the may.

The statement by the head of European diplomacy, reported by the Wafa news agency, came on the sidelines of the special meeting of the World Economic Forum, held in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

Last month, Spanish leader , Ireland, Slovakia and Malta expressed in a joint declaration their desire to recognize the Palestinian state.

Recently, the governments of Jamaica and Barbados announced their recognition of the State of Palestine, bringing the total number of countries having done so to 142.

On Sunday, Palestine’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Riyad Mansour, said new countries in the Caribbean and Latin America would soon recognize the state of Palestine.
