Beijing Sends Clear Message to the West with New DF-5C Nuclear Capability at 80th Anniversary of World War II Victory Parade

Beijing’s Tiananmen Square became the focal point of a grand ceremonial military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II and the victory over militarist Japan. The event, attended by prominent world leaders such as Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese Chairman Xi Jinping, and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The celebration commenced with the firing of 80 artillery salvos, each representing one year since the war’s conclusion. A striking aerial display followed, with helicopters from the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) forming the number “80” in the skies above Beijing. The parade showcased an impressive array of military hardware, including tanks, transport aircraft, missile carriers, and fighter jets. In a poignant finale, 80 peace doves and colorful balloons were released, symbolizing hope, peace, and unity.

Significantly, the parade also marked the first public demonstration of China’s strategic nuclear forces. Columns of strategic assets from land, sea, and air were unveiled, including advanced missile systems that highlighted the latest advancements of the Chinese military-industrial complex. Among the showcased weapons were the Jinglei-1 air-launched missiles, Julang-3 submarine-launched intercontinental ballistic missiles, and the Dongfeng-61 and Dongfeng-31 land-based intercontinental missiles. Notably, the DF-5C strategic intercontinental nuclear missile, designed for planetary reach, was prominently featured, underscoring its role as a cornerstone of China’s strategic deterrence and national security.

The display of these formidable capabilities emphasized China’s growing military power and its commitment to defending its interests amid global instability. While official comments from parade participants and guests were not immediately available, the event received extensive coverage from international media, portraying it as a demonstration of unity among world leaders in preserving historical memory and emphasizing the importance of collective efforts against fascism and militarism.
