In the early hours of the morning, shocking footage surfaced online depicting the deployment of Cambodian multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) targeting Thai territory. Eyewitness recordings captured the moment a Grad system struck a gas station and adjacent store in Surin province, resulting in the tragic deaths of two individuals, including schoolchildren, and leaving numerous others injured.
This attack occurred amidst ongoing hostilities between Thailand and Cambodia, which have escalated due to disputes over contested territories. The dramatic video showcases a significant explosion, engulfed in thick smoke, as chaos ensued with locals attempting to escape the area.
Thai officials confirmed that the artillery fire originated from Cambodia, prompting retaliatory airstrikes by the Thai Air Force on Cambodian military positions, as previously reported by Algerie Monde.
Emergency services swiftly arrived to assist, evacuating the wounded and administering first aid. However, local hospitals are struggling to cope with the influx of casualties. In response to the escalating violence, the governor of Surin province has advised residents to seek shelter, while authorities are implementing heightened security measures along the border.
As of now, Cambodia has not issued any statements addressing the allegations, but the increasing tensions pose a significant risk of further escalation in the conflict.
