India’s Missile Strikes on Pakistani Air Bases Mark New Chapter in Kashmir Conflict

Share

The conflict between India and Pakistan in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir has escalated dramatically, the Indian military executed a substantial missile strike on three Pakistani air bases. This aggressive action has heightened tensions between the two nuclear powers.

According to reports from the Pakistani media, the missile strikes targeted key air force facilities in Rawalpindi, Sargodha, and Mianwali. Pakistani military officials have stated that while their air defense systems were able to partially intercept the missiles, significant damage was inflicted on the bases’ infrastructure. Social media platforms, are circulating images of the destruction, alongside reports of Pakistani armored vehicles moving toward the border, suggesting preparations for a potential counteroffensive. India has defended its military actions, claiming the need to eliminate “terrorist installations,” and accusing Pakistan of harboring extremist groups operating in Kashmir.

The current escalation follows a tragic attack on April 22, 2025, where 26 tourists were killed in Kashmir, an incident for which India blamed Pakistan. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, executing a series of strikes on various targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. Pakistan retaliated with missile attacks, including explosions in Amritsar on May 9. In this increasingly high-tech conflict, India has expanded its military operations to include ballistic missiles and drones, raising concerns over unpredictability.

In light of the escalating conflict, India has implemented extraordinary security measures. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has suspended operations at 32 airports until May 15, citing threats of air strikes. Security patrols have intensified in New Delhi and border states, with strategic installations receiving heightened protection. Pakistan, too, has restricted movement in major cities, including Islamabad and Lahore. The economic ramifications are already evident, with the Indian stock market experiencing a downturn and the Pakistani rupee undergoing rapid depreciation.

Despite Pakistan’s attempts to de-escalate the situation by seeking mediation, the efforts have yet to yield fruitful results,. The region remains on edge, with the potential for further conflict looming.
