U.S. Resumes Delivery of Upgraded GLSDB Long-Range Munitions to Ukraine

The United States has announced the resumption of supplies of GLSDB (Ground-Launched Small Diameter Bomb) long-range precision bombs to Ukraine, capable of striking targets up to 161 kilometers away. This decision, comes as part of an effort to enhance Ukraine’s military capabilities amid ongoing conflict.
The GLSDB, developed collaboratively by Boeing and Saab, is known for its accuracy and extended range, making it a vital asset for the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Launched from ground platforms like HIMARS, these bombs are equipped with GPS navigation systems, enabling them to hit targets with minimal deviation even in challenging weather conditions. Recent modifications have reportedly tailored these munitions for the specific challenges faced in the Ukrainian theater, including enhancements to counter electronic warfare systems.
The resumption of GLSDB deliveries is part of the Trump administration’s initiative to restore military aid to Ukraine, which had been suspended in early 2025. According to The Washington Post, this move followed extensive consultations with Ukrainian officials and European allies, coinciding with ongoing talks with Russia regarding a potential ceasefire.
Previously, the U.S. supplied GLSDBs as part of a military aid package approved in 2023. However, their deployment was limited due to challenges in integrating the munitions into the Ukrainian military framework and the need for additional training for operators.
Reports indicate that the first batches of these upgraded bombs could reach Ukraine as early as April 2025, significantly bolstering the Ukrainian Armed Forces’ capability to target enemy rear positions effectively.
