Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Army General Valery Gerasimov, has reported to President Vladimir Putin that Russian troops have fully taken control of the city of Seversk in the Donetsk People’s Republic.
During a video conference with senior commanders, Gerasimov stated:
“Assault detachments of the Southern Grouping of Forces have completely liberated the city of Seversk.”
The Ministry of Defense described the capture as a significant milestone that creates favourable conditions for further advances toward Slavyansk and surrounding areas.
Gerasimov also provided an update on operations in nearby Konstantinovka, reporting that Russian forces now control approximately 45% of the city’s buildings. “Assault units of the Southern Grouping continue to advance in heavy fighting inside Konstantinovka,” he said.
President Putin personally thanked the commander of the Southern Grouping, Colonel-General Sergei Medvedev, for fulfilling the mission in Seversk ahead of schedule, noting that the operation had been completed before the stated target date of 15 December.
