US Halts Access to Maxar Satellite Images for Ukraine

Share

Maxar Technologies, an American aerospace firm, has ceased providing Ukraine with access to its satellite imagery, a crucial resource for the nation amid ongoing conflict. The announcement surfaced on the morning of March 7, 2025, through reports from Ukrainian users and various media outlets.

Maxar representatives cited an “administrative request” as the official reason for this withdrawal. However, sources indicate that the decision aligns with the new policies implemented by the administration of President Donald Trump. According to insiders, the US State Department has enacted a ban on the transfer of intelligence data to Ukraine, impacting both government entities and private organizations, including volunteer groups.

This move poses a serious challenge for Kyiv, hindering its ability to obtain timely intelligence on Russian troop movements and assess the impacts of strikes on critical infrastructure. The Ukrainian eSports and volunteer group “Kiberboroshno” announced the complete loss of access to satellite reconnaissance via its Telegram channel. While the initial message did not specify the services affected, representatives later confirmed that the termination of collaboration with Maxar Technologies was the primary concern, highlighting the reliance on this data provider for their operations.
