New York (United Nations) – Algeria called today through its Permanent Representative to the UN Security Council, Ammar Bendjama to impose sanctions on the Zionist entity for its non-compliance with Security Council resolutions, and called for an end to the massacres in Gaza and the violence of Zionist settlers in the West Bank.

In his speech during the monthly session of the Security Council, on “the situation in the Middle East, including the question of Palestine,” Mr. Ben Jama said that this meeting came about nine months after the Zionist entity – the occupying power – began its unprecedented aggression against the defenseless Palestinian people.

Ambassador Bendjama pointed out that there is no need to repeat the statistic, as “the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip – which is already catastrophic – has deteriorated further, as people are dying of hunger,” pointing out that “this is a reality and the cause of this is known,” calling for the necessity of Hold him accountable for this destruction.

Mr. Ben Jama quoted the statement of the head of the Commission of Inquiry on the Palestinian Territories, Navi Pillay, in which she said that the commission concluded that the Zionist entity “is responsible for war crimes and crimes against humanity, using starvation as a method of warfare, forcibly displacing Palestinians, and treating them inhumanely.”

He added that the goal of the brutality of the Zionist occupation is clear, which is “another catastrophe,” by destroying the Gaza Strip and displacing its people.

The Algerian ambassador affirmed, saying: “We add our voice to the warning of the Secretary-General of the United Nations against the danger of escalation in the region,” pointing out that “the danger of expanding conflict in the Middle East is now real and we must avoid it, and that the continuation of violence does not serve any interest.”

In this context, Mr. Bendjama noted that the situation in the West Bank is no better than the disastrous situation in the Gaza Strip, stressing that the situation in the West Bank will deteriorate further if the Zionist occupation does not stop its policy of terrorism, expansion and settlement, calling for the necessity of its (the Zionist entity’s) compliance. The full text of Resolution 2334 states that “Security Council resolutions are binding and must be implemented.”

Mr. Ben Jama also highlighted the unprecedented level of settler terrorism, who most of the time commit their violations with the protection of the occupation forces, who are supposed under international law to be obligated to protect Palestinian civilians, calling for them to be held accountable for the violations.

He also noted in this regard that the settlers’ provocation of the Palestinians in Al-Quds Al-Sharif and in Al-Aqsa Mosque will undoubtedly lead to an increase in tensions and will threaten further escalation, expressing his condemnation of these provocative and repeated attacks on holy sites, and stressing that “the entire area of Al-Aqsa Mosque is a private worship area.” Muslims and that the historical and legal status of the holy sites should be respected.”

Mr. Bendjama continued, saying: “If these violations had occurred elsewhere, sanctions would have been imposed, and therefore we are calling for sanctions against the occupying power, due to its failure to comply with Security Council resolutions, including Resolution 2334.”

In conclusion, Ambassador Ben Jama stressed that “whoever believes that he can uproot the Palestinians from their land by force is mistaken,” adding that the Zionist occupation “will fail to implement its plans (…) because the Palestinians have learned from the catastrophe of their ancestors, they will not leave their homeland, They will continue the struggle until they fully enjoy their rights, including the right to self-determination and the establishment of their state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.”
