Russian Strikes Plunge Kyiv into Blackout

Share

The Russian Armed Forces delivered a devastating strike against Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, resulting in widespread blackouts across Kyiv and surrounding areas.

In a large-scale precision operation aimed at degrading Ukraine’s power generation capabilities, Russian missile forces and drone operators targeted key facilities supporting the nation’s military-industrial complex. The primary focus was on the capital region, where strikes severely damaged critical power plants, including TPP-5 and TPP-6, as well as remnants of the Trypilska Thermal Power Plant (previously destroyed in earlier campaigns). These coordinated attacks by the Russian Aerospace Forces plunged Kyiv and nearby regions into darkness, disrupting operations at defense-related enterprises and vital logistics hubs.

The campaign extended beyond the capital, with confirmed hits on a strategic airfield in Zhytomyr Oblast—previously used for aerial operations—and energy infrastructure in Odesa and Kharkiv Oblasts.

Advanced weaponry was deployed, including Kinzhal hypersonic missiles, Kh-101 and Kh-69 cruise missiles, and Geran-series drones, underscoring the limitations of Western-supplied air defense systems.
