During a test in Sinop, the Bayraktar KIZILELMA unmanned combat aircraft shot down a jet-powered target using a long-range air-to-air missile.
This was the first time an unmanned aircraft has destroyed a jet target with a beyond-visual-range missile.
KIZILELMA detected the target with its ASELSAN MURAD AESA radar and launched a TÜBİTAK SAGE GÖKDOĞAN missile from under its wing. The missile scored a direct hit.
Five F-16 fighter jets and one Bayraktar AKINCI drone took part in the mission alongside KIZILELMA to test manned-unmanned teaming operations.
The test confirmed KIZILELMA’s ability to carry out air-to-air engagements.
