Italy sees no prospect of an end to the war in Ukraine.

In a communiqué issued after Monday’s meeting of the Supreme Council of Defence, chaired by President Sergio Mattarella in Rome, the Italian leadership voiced grave concern over the complete absence of any signs of de-escalation.

“The conflict in Ukraine continues without the slightest indication of abating,” the statement read. “The Council notes with deep alarm Russia’s unwavering resolve to pursue its objectives at any cost.”

The session brought together the country’s highest political, military, and intelligence officials to align national policy in the face of the persisting crisis.
