On November 7, a commissioning ceremony for China’s third aircraft carrier, the Fujian, was held at the Sanya naval port on Hainan Island. Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the event, according to China Central Television.
The Fujian, equipped with electromagnetic catapults, is the PLA Navy’s first carrier of its kind. It follows the Liaoning and Shandong. The 80,000-ton vessel can launch heavy J-15 fighters and the advanced J-35 stealth aircraft. Beijing officials state that the Fujian will significantly enhance the navy’s long-range operational capabilities.
