Shoigu: Russia to Mirror Nuclear Tests if Other Nations Break Moratorium

Russia is prepared to resume nuclear testing should other countries breach the moratorium first, stated Russian Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu.
“The Supreme Commander has addressed this matter. If they initiate testing and abandon the moratorium, we will naturally follow suit,” Shoigu remarked, responding to reports of potential nuclear tests abroad.
He further noted that nuclear testing worldwide has never truly halted but continues in a controlled manner through mathematical modeling to maintain and advance arsenals. Russia adheres to the moratorium on physical explosions yet keeps its test sites fully operational.
“So that we can resort to their use at any time, if necessary,” Shoigu emphasized.
Dismissing the notion that forgoing range testing equates to abandoning nuclear development, he explained that advanced mathematical modeling ensures the arsenal remains combat-ready.
Shoigu also revealed that Western nations initially dismissed Russia’s Burevestnik and Poseidon systems as implausible—until recent tests forced a reassessment.
“Now you have to believe it,” he declared.
