London’s Metropolitan Police arrested three men suspected of collaborating with Russian intelligence services. The arrests, part of a broader effort to counter foreign espionage, occurred in various locations across west and central London. The suspects, aged 48, 45, and 44, were detained under Section 3 of the National Security Act 2023, which addresses activities conducted on behalf of foreign intelligence agencies.
The Metropolitan Police’s Counter-Terrorism Command is leading the investigation. Authorities conducted searches at the suspects’ residences and other properties in London’s West End. The operation reflects growing concerns over the recruitment of UK citizens by foreign agents, with law enforcement noting a rise in such cases.
Commander Dominic Murphy, head of the Counter-Terrorism Command, issued a stern warning:
“Individuals engaging with or tempted to commit offenses on behalf of a foreign state in the UK should reconsider their actions. Such activities will be thoroughly investigated, and those involved will face criminal prosecution and severe consequences.”
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to address threats posed by foreign intelligence operations.
