Trump Declines to Supply Long-Range Missiles to Ukraine, Citing Concerns Over Conflict Escalation
Trump has opted not to provide Ukraine with long-range missiles, including Tomahawk systems capable of striking targets deep within Russian territory. This decision follows a meeting on Friday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Washington, which reportedly lasted about two and a half hours and was described as tense by participants.
Trump expressed concerns that Ukraine is seeking to escalate and prolong the conflict, especially given the impending harsh winter. According to a source quoted by CNN, Trump made it clear during their candid discussion that Ukraine would not receive these weapons for the time being.
Earlier in the week, Trump had a phone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he mentioned the possibility of a summit in Budapest. In his discussions, Zelenskyy emphasized the need for missiles to bolster Ukraine’s defenses and even proposed offering Ukrainian drones in exchange. However, Trump highlighted the risks associated with depleting American stockpiles.
