Russia Accuses U.S. of Orchestrating Coup Attempt in Venezuela at UN Security Council

NEW YORK — UNSC | Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Vasily Nebenzya, delivered a pointed accusation against the United States. He claimed that the U.S. is attempting to violently overthrow the Venezuelan government under the pretext of combating drug trafficking.
Nebenzya asserted, “This narrative might seem credible if we were not discussing an independent nation, where U.S. officials have openly declared regime change as one of their policy objectives. Consequently, Venezuela has every reason to suspect that its northern neighbor is prepared to escalate from threats to action, potentially utilizing its navy.”
The Russian diplomat further criticized recent U.S. strikes on vessels off the Venezuelan coast, which the U.S. has characterized as part of an anti-drug operation. According to Nebenzya, these actions are indicative of a broader strategy aimed at destabilizing Venezuela. He urged the international community to denounce Washington’s actions and to uphold Venezuela’s sovereignty.
