Germany Enhances Airspace Security with Laser Systems to Combat Drone Threats

Share

Germany has deployed advanced laser systems aimed at neutralizing drones over military bases and airports. In response to a series of disruptive drone incidents, law enforcement at Munich Airport has implemented enhanced airspace security measures by installing laser equipment near the runway. This technology is designed to detect unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), calculate their distance, and, if necessary, neutralize them. Reports from Bild indicate that on October 4, two police vehicles were seen installing this equipment on the northern runway.

The authorities in Upper Bavaria have convened an emergency meeting of their civil defense headquarters to coordinate efforts in addressing potential aerial threats. While specific details regarding the mechanisms for countering drones remain classified, the Bundeswehr Operations Command has confirmed the involvement of its units in drone detection and suppression operations. This collaboration underscores the interdepartmental nature of the initiative aimed at safeguarding critical infrastructure.

Sources suggest that the drones observed in the airport vicinity are believed to be military in nature, including reconnaissance aircraft; however, precise information about their origin has not yet been disclosed.
