U.S. Calls for Emergency G7 Meeting to Intensify Economic Pressure on Russia
Share
The U.S. Treasury Department has announced an emergency meeting of financial leaders from the Group of Seven (G7) nations to discuss strategies aimed at increasing pressure on Russia to cease its aggression in Ukraine.
This meeting is a direct response to the ongoing escalation of the conflict. A representative from the Treasury emphasized the importance of coordinating efforts among G7 countries to enhance economic sanctions against Russia, although specific measures to be discussed were not disclosed.
This initiative follows comments made by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who highlighted the necessity for collaborative action with European allies to weaken the Russian economy. The agenda is anticipated to cover topics such as the implementation of secondary tariffs on nations purchasing Russian oil and the enforcement of stricter controls on Russia’s “shadow fleet.”
