UN Security Council to Hold Emergency Meeting on Poland’s Request Following Russian Drone Strike
Share
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has agreed to convene an emergency meeting at Poland’s request regarding a violation of its airspace by Russia.
Warsaw’s initiative came in response to an incident on the night of September 10, when Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) breached the border, resulting in debris falling on 15 settlements and a military base in Nowy Miasto nad Pilice. All drones were intercepted and destroyed by Polish and NATO forces, but the event has raised significant concerns.
Poland has already commenced consultations under Article 4 of the NATO Charter and has requested additional air defense systems from its allies. Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski previously emphasized that such an incursion warrants international condemnation. The specific date and time for the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council are still being finalized.
