Egypt Warns US Against Targeting Hamas on Its Soil, Citing Devastating Consequences

Egypt has issued a warning to the United States, stating that any attempts to target Hamas officials on its territory would have “devastating consequences,”.
Reports claims that Egypt is prepared to host and protect Hamas leaders, along with other political groups based in Gaza, if necessary. This warning follows Israel’s recent efforts to strike Hamas delegates during their visit to Doha, which the US was already aware of.
While Egypt is not expected to formally halt negotiations aimed at resolving the war in Gaza, its involvement may be reduced if Israel continues what officials deem a “dangerous development” under Netanyahu.
An Egyptian source emphasized that Egypt retains control over how and when it communicates with Israel, rather than dictating who its Israeli counterparts are. “As long as Netanyahu maintains his current policies, Egypt’s engagement will be minimal and guided strictly by national security interests,” the source stated.
These remarks come in the wake of Qatar’s strong condemnation of Netanyahu, who accused Doha of secretly harboring Hamas leaders under the guise of mediation. Qatar’s foreign ministry rejected these allegations, describing them as a “shameful attempt… to justify the cowardly attack” on Qatari soil. Doha clarified that Hamas representatives are hosted openly and “within the framework of Qatar’s mediation efforts requested by the United States and Israel.”
Netanyahu’s comments, which included references to the 9/11 attacks, sparked particular outrage. Qatar labeled the comparison to al-Qaida as a “desperate distortion,” emphasizing that no international mediation has ever involved cooperation with a terrorist network.
Qatar has pledged to continue its role as a diplomatic intermediary and to defend its sovereignty through all available legal and international channels. In response to the attack, the country’s legal team convened this week to explore legal avenues and reaffirm Qatar’s commitment to international law.
In Egypt, the fallout from these developments has heightened concerns that Israel is disregarding Cairo’s requests for broader humanitarian access to Gaza. According to reports , communication between Egypt and Israel is currently at its lowest point since being reduced to the military coordination committee established under the Camp David Accords.
The report also indicated that no progress has been made in discussions with the United States regarding the renewal of a ceasefire. Cairo has warned Washington that any similar attack on Egyptian soil would lead to “devastating consequences.” Egyptian officials have reiterated their intention to host and protect Palestinian faction leaders on Egyptian territory.
One Egyptian source suggested that the strike in Doha may have been a substitute for a previously foiled Israeli operation in Turkey. Meanwhile, Qatari media continues to portray the attack as part of a long-standing Israeli campaign to undermine Doha’s role in Gaza, citing senior Israeli figures who have accused Qatar of financing Hamas.
