French President Emmanuel Macron announced that 26 countries have committed to deploying troops to Ukraine after the conflict ends in order to ensure security. This statement followed a meeting of the “Coalition of the Willing” in Paris. The potential troop contributions include sea, air, and land forces, aimed at providing long-term security guarantees for Ukraine.
Macron noted that the United States has yet to finalize its security guarantees, but discussions on this matter are expected to take place in the coming days. He emphasized that if Russia refuses to engage in peace negotiations, the coalition is prepared to impose new sanctions against Moscow in coordination with the US.
US President Donald Trump called for increased economic pressure on China during a video conference with European leaders, accusing China of funding Russia’s military efforts. Trump urged European nations to halt purchases of Russian oil to intensify pressure on Moscow.
The Paris meeting was attended by leaders from 30 countries, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, with representation from NATO and the European Union. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte stated that Russia has no authority to dictate whether Western troops can be deployed in Ukraine as part of security guarantees. Meanwhile, the Kremlin has previously rejected the notion of Western peacekeepers on Ukrainian territory, highlighting the challenges in negotiating a future settlement.
