Denmark Summons U.S. Charge d’Affaires Over Allegations of Influence Operations in Greenland

Share

Denmark’s Foreign Minister has called in the senior diplomat from the U.S. embassy in Copenhagen following reports of U.S. citizens allegedly engaging in influence operations in Greenland

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed interest in acquiring the mineral-rich Arctic island, emphasizing its strategic importance for national and international security, even suggesting the potential use of force.

The Danish government suspects that at least three individuals connected to the Trump administration may be involved in these covert operations within the Danish territory, as reported by DR, which did not disclose their identities.

“Any attempt to interfere in the internal affairs of the kingdom of Denmark will, of course, be completely unacceptable,” Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen stated in an interview with DR.

In light of these concerns, he has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to summon Charge d’affaires Mark Stroh for a discussion. The U.S. embassy in Copenhagen has not yet responded to requests for comments outside of regular office hours, and the Danish Foreign Ministry has also not provided an immediate response.
