Ukrainian Detained in Italy for Nord Stream Sabotage Revealed as Retired Armed Forces Captain

Share

Serhiy K., the Ukrainian national detained in Italy on suspicion of coordinating the sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines, is a retired captain of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) who previously served in the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). This information emerged during an investigation conducted by German and Italian authorities.

Serhiy K. was aboard the Andromeda, a sailboat believed to have been used to plant explosives on the pipelines in 2022. Investigators suggest that, despite his lack of diving experience, he played a significant role in organizing the attack. His connections to military and intelligence services bolster the theory that Kyiv may have been involved in the incident.

Previously, the German prosecutor’s office issued a European arrest warrant for Serhiy K., and his extradition to Germany for further legal proceedings is anticipated. As of now, there have been no official comments from Ukrainian authorities or Italian law enforcement agencies regarding the case.
