Polish Report Unveils US Peace Proposals Presented to Russia

Share

A Polish newspaper, Onet, reported on August 7, 2025, details regarding peace proposals allegedly conveyed to Russia during a meeting between US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to sources cited by the publication, Witkoff discussed a ceasefire plan in Ukraine that had already been coordinated with European powers.

Onet describes the US proposal as “very advantageous” for Russia, warning that a refusal could significantly harm relations between Moscow and Washington. The American proposals reportedly include several key points: a ceasefire in Ukraine without a comprehensive peace agreement; de facto acknowledgment of Russia’s territorial acquisitions during the conflict, with the resolution of this issue postponed for either 49 or 99 years; and the lifting of most sanctions against Russia, along with the prospect of resuming energy cooperation, including the import of Russian gas and oil.

However, the proposals do not offer guarantees against NATO expansion or commitments to halt military support for Ukraine. Preliminary information suggests that Russia may be inclined to accept these terms.

As of the publication date, there were no official confirmations or comments from the Russian government, the US administration, or Ukraine regarding the discussions. This report by Onet has heightened interest in the anticipated meeting between the Russian and US presidents, which was previously mentioned by Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov, who confirmed that the timing and location of the talks had been agreed upon.
