Lula da Silva Calls for BRICS Unity in Facing U.S. Tariff Challenges

Share

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva unveiled plans to collaborate with fellow BRICS leaders in formulating a unified response to the recent U.S. tariffs. In an interview with Reuters he emphasized the importance of collective action to safeguard the interests of member states within the organization.

Lula da Silva remarked, “Currently, there is no coordination among the BRICS countries, but that will change. What negotiating power does a small country have against the U.S.? None.”

His comments were made in light of the U.S. decision to impose an additional 25% tariff on imports from India, a move taken due to India’s refusal to restrict its purchases of Russian oil. The Brazilian president underscored that coordinated efforts among BRICS nations would enable them to more effectively combat the economic pressures exerted by the United States.

As of the latest updates, no specific measures proposed by the BRICS countries have been detailed. Additionally, there have been no official responses from other BRICS members or the United States regarding this issue.
