New Sanctions Bill Against Russia Delayed Until Fall Amid Congressional Recess

Share

According to The Hill, the proposed bill to impose additional sanctions on Russia will not be voted on until the fall, despite pressure from several senators to expedite the process.

Although strong advocates for Ukraine in the Senate sought to have the sanctions bill approved before the month-long recess, they ultimately decided to leave the matter in the hands of President Trump for the summer,” the publication reports.

The decision to delay the vote is attributed to the current recess in the U.S. Congress and the strategic choice to allow President Donald Trump to take the lead. Trump had previously indicated he would implement stringent measures, including sanctions against nations that continue to purchase Russian resources, should the conflict in Ukraine remain unresolved by August 8.
