STARMER CALLS FOR CALM AS TRUMP GREENLIGHTS POTENTIAL MILITARY ACTION AGAINST IRAN

Share

Keir Starmer has urged for “cool heads” to prevail following reports that President Donald Trump has authorized plans for a military strike on Iran. The situation has prompted the Prime Minister’s spokesman to call for all involved parties to take steps towards de-escalation.

As Britain prepares to engage in crisis talks in Geneva with Iranian officials, the spokesman emphasized, “The continuation of the current situation is in no one’s interest. We want to see cool heads and a return to diplomacy because that is the best route forward.”

Despite approving the military plans, Trump is reportedly awaiting the outcome of potential negotiations aimed at curtailing Iran’s nuclear weapons program before taking further action.

The UK government has not clarified whether it would permit the use of its Diego Garcia base located on the Chagos Islands for a U.S. strike against Iran. This uncertainty follows a warning from Lord Hermer, the Attorney General, who cautioned that UK involvement in any American-led attack could be deemed illegal.
