Putin and Xi Firmly Condemn Israeli Military Actions Against Iran, Urgent Call for Diplomacy

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed strong condemnation of Israel’s military actions against Iran, calling for a diplomatic resolution to the escalating conflict, according to statements from both Moscow and Beijing.

Israel has launched a series of unprecedented strikes against Iran, prompting Tehran to retaliate with missile and drone attacks of its own. The situation has raised alarms internationally, leading to discussions about potential diplomatic interventions.

Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov informed reporters that both leaders “strongly condemn Israel’s actions” and emphasized that the cessation of hostilities should be achieved solely through political and diplomatic efforts. Xi highlighted that achieving a ceasefire is the “top priority,” urging Israel to stop its offensive actions. Chinese state media reported Xi’s remarks, which underscored the belief that military force is not an appropriate solution for resolving international disputes.

Xi stated, “Promoting a ceasefire and cessation of hostilities is the top priority. Armed force is not the correct way to resolve international disputes.” He further urged all parties involved, particularly Israel, to halt hostilities promptly to prevent further escalation and to avoid the conflict spilling over into larger regional issues.

Amid these tensions, Putin has positioned himself as a potential mediator between the conflicting parties. Russia has maintained close ties with Iran, particularly as military cooperation.

Last week, Putin engaged in phone discussions with Netanyahu and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Ushakov noted that Xi supports such mediation efforts, believing they could help de-escalate the current tensions.
