Israel Claims Iran is Close to Developing a Nuclear Bomb, While US Intelligence Disagrees
In the wake of a series of military aggression against Iran, Israel issued warnings regarding Iran’s nuclear ambitions, suggesting that the country was nearing a critical juncture in its pursuit of nuclear weapons. The Israelis contended that these strikes were essential to prevent Iran from reaching that pivotal point.
Contrary to Israel’s claims, US intelligence reports indicate that Iran is not actively working on a nuclear weapon and is approximately three years away from being capable of producing and deploying one, according to sources familiar with the assessments.
US military and intelligence officials have noted longstanding differences in how the US and Israel interpret information regarding Iran’s nuclear program, despite sharing intelligence resources.
Tulsi Gabbard, testified that the US intelligence community continues to assess that Iran is not pursuing a nuclear weapon and that Supreme Leader Khamenei has not authorized a weapons program since it was suspended in 2003.
Iran’s most fortified nuclear facility, Fordow, remains largely intact following the Israeli strikes. This site, located deep within a mountain, poses a unique challenge for any military action aimed at dismantling Iran’s nuclear program.
The US administration maintains that a diplomatic resolution is still achievable. However, Iran said that it will not engage in talks while under attack.
