During an emergency session of the UN Security Council, Ambassador Amar Bendjama, Algeria’s Permanent Representative, delivered a speech regarding the current situation in the Middle East and Iran.
Bendjama began by highlighting that the Israeli army has conducted coordinated attacks on Iran, targeting multiple regions within the country. He emphasized the severity of these actions and their implications for regional stability.
The ambassador noted that the International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly warned that armed assaults against nuclear facilities could lead to grave consequences. He expressed concern that the actions of the Zionist entity appear to disregard international law, fostering chaos in the region.
Further, Bendjama stated that the foundational principles of the United Nations are not optional but rather obligations that member states must uphold. He criticized the behavior of the Zionist entity, asserting that it does not reflect the conduct expected from a member of the Security Council.
He also pointed to the repeated acts of aggression by the Zionist entity in Syria, Lebanon, and Palestine, calling for accountability. Benjamaa referenced the dire situation in Gaza as evidence of using starvation as a weapon of war, in blatant violation of international humanitarian law.
In a poignant conclusion, he stated that genocide is unfolding before the international community’s eyes, questioning why the Middle East remains unstable. Bendjama asserted that justice must prevail over power, declaring that upholding international law is not merely a choice but a duty that must be embraced by all nations.
