Lavrov Describes Russian Strikes on Ukraine as Retaliatory Measures

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov characterized the strikes by Russian armed forces on military targets in Ukraine as a necessary response to attacks on Russia’s civilian infrastructure by Kyiv. Lavrov asserted that the Ukrainian authorities were fully aware of the motivations behind Moscow’s actions.

Lavrov emphasized that Russian strikes specifically target military installations and facilities used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, contrasting this with what he described as Kyiv’s assaults on civilian infrastructure. He accused the Ukrainian leadership of intentionally targeting civilian sites and criticized Western nations for overlooking Ukraine’s actions that endanger Russian citizens, including women and children. The minister expressed that the West’s stance either reflects a denial of reality or a deliberate attempt to obscure the truth.

Additionally, the Russian Defense Ministry reported an uptick in Ukrainian attacks from May 20 to May 27, 2025, noting a significant increase in the use of Western-made drones and rockets aimed at Russian territories.
