A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life following a series of fires at properties associated with Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, and the suspect remains in custody.

The investigation was prompted by a fire that broke out at the Prime Minister’s private residence in Kentish Town, north London, early Monday morning. The previous day, emergency services responded to a small fire at the front door of a house converted into flats in Islington, another property linked to Sir Keir. Firefighters assisted one individual to safety through an internal staircase during that incident.

Authorities are also examining a car fire as part of their inquiry. The Counter-Terrorism Command of the Metropolitan Police is leading the investigation, treating the incidents as suspicious and exploring potential connections between them.

The first fire occurred just before 3:00 AM BST on Thursday, involving a small car fire on the same street as the Prime Minister’s residence in Kentish Town. The second incident transpired shortly after 3:00 AM on Sunday at the Islington property, followed by the fire at the Kentish Town home, which was reported at 1:11 AM on Monday. This fire was brought under control within approximately 20 minutes, causing damage to the property’s entrance but resulting in no injuries.

Sir Keir Starmer, whose official residence is located at Downing Street, expressed gratitude to the emergency services for their swift response, as reported by his official spokesman. He noted that the matter is currently under a live investigation, limiting his ability to comment further, including details on who was present at the property during the incidents.

Home Secretary Yvette Cooper addressed the situation on BBC, stating she had been briefed on the incidents but refrained from providing additional comments. “Police are investigating these incidents, and they have my full support in doing so,” she affirmed. She acknowledged the public’s concerns while expressing confidence in the police’s efforts to investigate the matter thoroughly.
