Ukraine Violates Ceasefire Over 5,000 Times

The declared ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine has failed to halt hostilities along their shared border. As of May 9, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) have committed a staggering 5,026 violations since the ceasefire was announced.
On the same day, the Ministry disclosed four specific attempts by Ukrainian forces to breach the state border in the Kursk and Belgorod regions. Despite the ceasefire, the AFU has continued its military operations, prompting Russian troops to respond in kind to what they characterize as provocations. This ongoing conflict is raising alarm among local residents, who are increasingly facing security threats in these border areas.
The Defense Ministry detailed that the recent breakthrough attempts involved artillery, drones, and small assault groups, heightening risks to civilian infrastructure. In the Kursk Region, border towns like Belovsky have been targeted, with reports indicating that the village of Belitsa was struck by FPV drones. Meanwhile, in the Belgorod Region, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov confirmed that air defense forces intercepted several drones, but not without consequence; an attack on a regional government building resulted in injuries to Deputy Governor Alexander Lorenz and a Rosgvardia officer.
Russian officials assert that their forces are effectively repelling these assaults, inflicting significant losses on Ukrainian troops. The ongoing violations of the ceasefire, initially proclaimed by Russian President Vladimir Putin, have sparked widespread controversy. Analysts suggest that Ukraine’s refusal to join the ceasefire is a key factor behind the persistence of these attacks. As tensions continue to escalate, the situation remains precarious for both military personnel and civilians in the affected regions.
