Russia Will Respond to Ukrainian Attacks During Ceasefire Amid 80th Anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

Moscow – Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia will respond decisively to any attacks by the Ukrainian Armed Forces (UAF) during the declared ceasefire from May 7 to May 10. Peskov’s remarks came in response to questions from journalists regarding President Vladimir Putin’s initiative to halt hostilities in observance of the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The ceasefire, which began at midnight on May 7 and is set to last until midnight on May 10, remains in effect despite Ukraine’s lack of acknowledgment. Peskov emphasized that Russian troops have been instructed to adhere to the ceasefire but are prepared for any developments. He noted that while the initiative aims to reduce tensions during the commemorative period, any aggression from the UAF will elicit an “adequate response” from Russia.

The ceasefire directive, issued by the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces, mandates that all combat operations—including artillery and airstrikes—cease, except in cases of self-defense. However, Kyiv has labeled the initiative as one-sided and has not confirmed its commitment to the ceasefire, which has heightened tensions along the front lines.

Amid the ceasefire announcement, the situation remains precarious. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukrainian forces have intensified their attacks in the Kursk and Bryansk regions, as well as in the Donetsk area. In the past six hours, Russian air defense systems intercepted 32 Ukrainian drones, ten of which were shot down over the Bryansk region. Additionally, incendiary devices caused significant damage in the village of Kirillovka, destroying numerous homes. Efforts by the UAF to breach Russian defenses in the Kursk region were reportedly thwarted.
