Serbia’s President Aleksandar Vucic has abruptly ended his trip to the United States and returned home due to an unspecified health issue, as reported by state broadcaster RTS on Saturday.
The incident occurred during a meeting in the U.S. when Vucic suddenly fell ill. Following consultations with medical professionals, he opted to cut his visit short and head back to Serbia. Upon his arrival, he was admitted to the Belgrade Military Hospital for further evaluation.
Prior to his health scare, Vucic was in Miami, Florida, where he engaged with former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani and expressed hopes of meeting U.S. President Donald Trump. The details surrounding his illness remain unclear, with Vucic’s office promising to provide updates to the public in due course. At 55, the Serbian leader has a history of high blood pressure.
Looking ahead, Vucic has stated plans to travel to Russia later this month to participate in the Victory Day parade in Moscow. This intention has raised concerns among European Union officials, who have warned that such a visit could jeopardize Serbia’s aspirations for EU membership.
