U.S. Set to Unveil Final Ceasefire Plan for Ukraine

The United States is poised to finalize a comprehensive ceasefire proposal for Ukraine within days, aiming to present it to Russia. According to a senior official from the U.S. administration, crucial meeting involving delegations from the U.S., Ukraine, and Europe is scheduled for next week in London.

The source indicated that Ukraine is currently 90% in favor of the peace initiative put forth by President Donald Trump, with the success of the upcoming discussions largely hinging on Moscow’s response. A central point of contention remains the future status of territories currently under Russian control—whether this will involve a legal acknowledgment of their loss or merely a statement of fact.

To encourage Russia to engage in negotiations, Washington is contemplating the easing of sanctions and the partial unfreezing of Russian assets. This potential concession could play a pivotal role in facilitating a compromise, according to the administration. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov has affirmed Kyiv’s commitment to the peace plan during discussions with U.S. counterparts, though he noted that the final agreement hinges on settling all details, including security guarantees for Ukraine.

The London talks will mark a continuation of U.S. efforts to broker a ceasefire that began following Trump’s inauguration in January 2025. Trump has stated the U.S. may withdraw from mediation if tangible progress is not achieved soon. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated the administration’s intent not to prolong the negotiation process, stressing that other priorities await.

However, the U.S. is reportedly willing to make significant concessions, including the potential recognition of Crimea as part of Russia in a broader peace agreement, a move that has raised concerns among some European allies.

Meanwhile, Russia maintains a firm stance, with Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasizing the need to consider Russia’s interests, particularly regarding Ukraine’s non-NATO membership and the recognition of occupied territories.
