Fifteen Palestinian emergency workers, including a United Nations staff member, were found dead in a mass grave in Rafah, southern Gaza. The bodies were discovered near clearly marked emergency vehicles, including ambulances, a fire truck, and a UN vehicle.
The group went missing on March 23 while responding to an Israeli airstrike.
Access to the site was restricted for a week, which delayed recovery efforts. On March 31, the bodies were finally recovered and buried the following day.
The Palestinian Red Crescent described this incident as its deadliest loss in nearly a decade. In light of the tragedy, the UN and various humanitarian organizations have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
