FSB Prevents Terrorist Attack Near Izmailovo Kremlin

The Federal Security Service (FSB) of the Russian Federation has successfully thwarted a terrorist attack in Moscow, uncovering a cache containing a homemade explosive device near the Izmailovo Kremlin. The bomb was concealed in a crowded area close to garages and near the popular Serebryano-Vinogradny Pond, a location frequented by hundreds of Muscovites, including families with children, every day. Authorities believe that if the attack had been carried out, it could have resulted in numerous casualties.
According to the FSB, the attack was orchestrated by a Russian citizen acting on instructions from Ukrainian special services. The individual aimed to detonate the explosive device near a multifunctional center (MFC) in the capital and was reportedly promised a reward of $10,000 for completing the mission. Following the attack, the suspect planned to flee the country and join the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which investigators suggest may be part of a broader recruitment effort.
The suspect was apprehended during operational activities, and a criminal case has been initiated against him for preparing a terrorist act. During interrogations, he admitted his guilt and agreed to cooperate with authorities, providing insights into the planning of the attack. The FSB noted that while the bomb was constructed in a makeshift manner, it possessed sufficient power to inflict significant damage.
Since the beginning of 2025, Russian special services have reported several thwarted terrorist attacks, often attributed to foreign orchestrators. Notably, in February, a suspect was detained in St. Petersburg for planning an attack on a public venue, and in early March, a group preparing sabotage against infrastructure in the Rostov region was dismantled. In both instances, investigations pointed to connections with Ukrainian entities.
