U.S. Forces Conduct Six Airstrikes on Houthi Targets at Hodeida Airport in Yemen

On March 24, 2025, the U.S. military executed a series of six airstrikes targeting Houthi positions at Hodeida airport in Yemen, launching the attacks in three successive waves, according to an anonymous source close to military circles. The strikes aimed at infrastructure used by the Ansar Allah (Houthi) for storing and launching missiles and drones, which U.S. command asserts pose a significant threat to international shipping in the Red Sea.

The operation started around midnight local time, with subsequent waves of strikes following within a few hours. Key targets included weapons depots and command posts situated near the runway of Hodeida airport, a strategically critical facility along Yemen’s west coast. While the Houthis have not released official information regarding casualties or damage, local reports indicated powerful explosions and thick smoke rising from the airport area overnight. U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed the operation, stating it was conducted to “protect freedom of navigation and ensure security in international waters.”

These airstrikes are part of a broader U.S. campaign against the Houthis, who have intensified their attacks on maritime and land targets in recent months, including Israeli territory and commercial vessels. The Houthis claim their actions are aimed at supporting Palestinians in Gaza and are a response to the policies of Israel and its allies. In contrast, Washington perceives these attacks as a threat to global trade and regional stability, prompting an increase in military pressure.

The United States has conducted over 70 strikes against Houthi targets in recent weeks across various provinces in Yemen, including Saada and Sanua, where U.S. military intelligence indicates Houthi leaders may be hiding. The Houthi television channel Al Masirah reported that U.S. forces have executed at least 20 strikes in Hodeida alone within nine days in March, further highlighting the intensity of the current military campaign. The Houthis assert they have successfully destroyed drone and missile depots during these operations and have vowed to “respond to escalation with escalation.”
