Jessica Aber, the former U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was discovered dead in her Alexandria home on Saturday, March 22, 2025. Aber, 43, who was appointed by the Biden administration, served as U.S. attorney from October 2021 until her resignation in January 2025, shortly after the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

Authorities received a call reporting an “unresponsive woman” at Aber’s residence on Beverly Drive. Upon arrival, they found her deceased. The cause of death has not yet been established, and local law enforcement has initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding her passing. The Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will provide a formal determination of cause and manner of death following the autopsy.

Aber was widely recognized for her legal acumen during her tenure in the Eastern District of Virginia, where she supervised a team of approximately 300 prosecutors and support staff. Her work included overseeing high-profile cases related to terrorist threats, organized crime, and breaches of national security. Representing a district that encompasses over six million residents, including major cities such as Alexandria, Richmond, and Norfolk, Aber held a crucial role in addressing complex legal issues associated with defense and intelligence agencies.

Her appointment followed a unanimous Senate confirmation, making her one of the few women to lead the esteemed U.S. Attorney’s Office, known for handling intricate national security and white-collar crime cases. Aber’s legacy in the legal community and her contributions to public service are being remembered fondly by colleagues and the community alike.
