VOA Journalists File Lawsuit Against Trump and Kari Lake Following Media Agency Shutdown

Staff members of Voice of America (VOA) have initiated legal action against former President Donald Trump and Kari Lake after Trump ordered the shutdown of the U.S. Agency for Global Media (USAGM), the parent organization of VOA and Radio Free Europe.
In March, Trump signed an executive order to close seven government offices, labeling them as “wasteful and broken.” The lawsuit alleges that this move constitutes a direct assault on press freedom, describing it as “a government shutdown of journalism” that effectively obstructs news before it can be reported.
Kari Lake, who currently serves as a top advisor at USAGM, commented on the situation, stating that the agency is “not salvageable” and instructed employees to “check your email” regarding their job status.
