US Prepares for Major War with Yemen and Iran – Second Supercarrier Sent to Middle East

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has announced a strategic reinforcement of American forces in the Middle East. On March 21, 2025, the Pentagon confirmed that the USS Harry Truman, an aircraft carrier currently stationed in the Red Sea, will extend its deployment until at least May. This decision comes as part of a broader strategy to address increasing hostilities from Yemen’s Houthis and heightened tensions with Iran, which the U.S. identifies as the principal backer of the militant group.

The USS Harry Truman, a Nimitz-class supercarrier known for its formidable capabilities, has been actively involved in anti-Houthi operations since the start of the year. In addition to maintaining the Truman’s presence, the U.S. is deploying a second strike group led by the USS Carl Vinson, which is being redirected from the Pacific Ocean after conducting joint exercises with Japan and South Korea. Instead of returning to San Diego as planned, the Vinson will extend its mission in the Middle East by three months.

Analysts suggest that this military maneuver aims to increase pressure on the Houthis, who have been targeting both commercial and military vessels in the Red Sea. The dual carrier presence is intended not only to counter the Yemeni rebels but also to signal Iran regarding U.S. resolve. President Donald Trump has previously warned Tehran of repercussions for any Houthi actions, asserting that the Iranian regime would be held accountable.

On March 15, the USS Harry Truman participated in a large-scale operation against Houthi military installations in Sanaa and Saada provinces. The Houthis retaliated by launching 18 missiles and drones aimed at the carrier; however, the Pentagon reported that these attacks were successfully intercepted before posing any threat to the ship. Following two additional attempted attacks on the Truman, U.S. resolve to continue operations in the region has only intensified.

In an interview with Fox News, Hegseth reaffirmed the U.S. stance, stating, “This campaign will not end until the Houthis stop targeting our ships and assets. We do not want a protracted war, but we will act mercilessly.”
