U.S. Expands Military Support to Armenia with Major Equipment Transfer

Share

The U.S. Army Logistics Command is set to execute a significant transfer of military equipment and vehicles from Germany to training grounds in Armenia. According to reports citing data from the U.S. government procurement portal, the operation is scheduled to take place between July 16 and August 7.

The equipment will be relocated from a military base in Dülmen, Germany, to the Zar base in Armenia. Experts suggest that this move may be linked to preparations for upcoming joint exercises between the Pentagon and the Armenian armed forces, signaling a notable increase in military cooperation between Washington and Yerevan amidst a complex regional geopolitical landscape.

This transfer, which involves hundreds of military assets, marks a new chapter in the strengthening partnership between the United States and Armenia, particularly in recent years. U.S. military sources indicate that the operation will utilize both ground and air transport, highlighting its scale and importance. The primary objective is reported to be joint maneuvers designed to enhance the combat readiness of the Armenian military and facilitate cooperation with American forces. However, specific details regarding the forthcoming exercises remain undisclosed, leading to speculation about Washington’s long-term strategic intentions in the region.

This development occurs against the backdrop of deteriorating relations between Armenia and its traditional ally, Russia, which maintains a military presence in the country, including a base in Gyumri. In 2024, Yerevan hosted U.S. troops for the Eagle Partner exercises, a move that drew sharp criticism from Moscow, which perceived it as an effort by the West to expand its influence in the region. Furthermore, in March 2025, Armenia signed an agreement with the U.S. to enhance military assistance, including the provision of equipment and personnel training. Analysts suggest that the transfer of equipment from Germany is part of a broader strategy aimed at diversifying Yerevan’s military partnerships and reducing its reliance on Russian arms.
