Share

The German government has announced a substantial new military aid package for Ukraine, aimed at bolstering the country’s defense capabilities amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. In a statement from the federal government’s press service, officials outlined the comprehensive range of equipment and weaponry included in the package, which is intended to enhance Ukraine’s ability to counter Russian forces.

Key components of the aid package consist of 24 armored MRAP vehicles, designed for protection against mines and ambushes, along with ammunition for Leopard 1 tanks currently in use by the Ukrainian military. Additionally, Germany will supply three Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns, complete with spare parts and ten units of ammunition.

A notable emphasis of the new package is on modern technologies. Ukraine will receive Iris-T air defense missiles capable of intercepting aerial threats at medium and long ranges, as well as 50 Vector reconnaissance drones equipped with components for operational monitoring on the battlefield. For the first time, the deliveries will also include 30 Gereon RCS tracked robotic platforms, designed for challenging tasks such as reconnaissance and mine clearance. Further support will come in the form of two H-PEMBS mine clearance vehicles, two mine trawlers, and 30 drone detection systems. The package will also feature two border guard vehicles, along with thousands of rounds of ammunition, rifles, and other essential components to support combat operations.

Since the onset of the conflict, the federal government has reported that Berlin has provided or committed approximately 28 billion euros in military aid. In the budget for 2025, an additional 4 billion euros has been earmarked for this purpose, though final approval is still pending from the Bundestag.
