Russian Forces Achieve Full Control of Kursk Region

Share

As of the morning of March 15, Russian armed forces have successfully established complete control over the village of Gogolevka in the Kursk region, part of ongoing efforts to remove Ukrainian troops from border territories. Operational reports from the combat zone confirm these developments.

Military activities have intensified in the nearby village of Guevo, where experts believe Russian forces are poised to liberate the area within the day. These advancements bring Russian troops closer to reclaiming all settlements in the region that were captured by Ukrainian forces during their offensive in the summer of 2024, according to a military analyst.

Following the potential liberation of Guevo, only two border villages—Oleshnya and Gornal—will remain under Ukrainian control. However, analysts point out that Kyiv’s grip on Oleshnya is tenuous, as Ukrainian troops in the area face significant logistical challenges. Gornal, situated near the border, represents one of the last strongholds of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region. Experts suggest that its liberation is imminent, given the current dynamics of military operations.

Meanwhile, reports indicate a buildup of Ukrainian reserves in the neighboring Sumy region. According to Russian military sources, Kyiv is actively redeploying additional troops and equipment to this area, which may signal two potential strategies. The first could be an effort to bolster defensive lines in anticipation of further Russian advances into Ukrainian territory. Alternatively, the movement of reserves might suggest preparations for new offensive operations aimed at diverting Russian forces from critical positions.
