Breaking News: Several Injured in Car Ramming Incident in Mannheim, Germany
Share
Multiple injuries have been reported after a car drove into a crowd in the center of Mannheim, Germany. Local news outlet Mannheimer Morgen cites eyewitness accounts indicating that at least one person has died, though this has not yet been officially confirmed.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos as the driver struck several pedestrians on Planken, the city’s main shopping street. Heavily armed police have established a significant presence in Paradeplatz and are blocking access to nearby bridges.
The Baden-Württemberg interior ministry has classified the situation as “life-threatening,” issuing alerts through local warning apps, and urging residents to avoid the city center. Reports from BILD indicate that a black SUV was involved, reportedly traveling from Paradeplatz to Wasserturm.
A spokesperson for Mannheim police confirmed ongoing operations in the city center, particularly around Wasserturm and Plankenkopf, with police and rescue services responding to the incident.
As authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the event, it remains unclear whether it was an accident or a deliberate attack, reminiscent of a similar incident in Munich last month.
UPDATE
Two people have been killed and 25 injured, 15 of whom are in serious condition.
