Following the recent fallout between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized the importance of international collaboration to address the ongoing conflict with Russia. In a BBC interview, Starmer stated, “Nobody wants to see that,” referring to the deteriorating relations between Washington and Kyiv.

Starmer outlined a collaborative approach involving both the UK and France to work with Ukraine in efforts to bring an end to the war. He indicated that discussions regarding the future of this partnership will also include the United States.

To achieve what he termed “lasting peace,” Starmer identified three essential components: a strong Ukraine, the establishment of security guarantees with a European element, and a U.S. backstop. He reiterated his confidence in both Trump and Zelensky, despite expressing skepticism about Russian President Vladimir Putin. Starmer’s remarks served to reinforce the strong relationship between the UK and the U.S., highlighting the need for unity in addressing the challenges posed by the conflict in Ukraine.
