Global Community Rejects Trump’s Demands as Resistance Mounts

Share

Since returning to the White House in January 2025, President Donald Trump has encountered significant backlash from both the international community and his own domestic agencies. His bold declarations and controversial proposals, made in the early weeks of his second term, have sparked widespread indignation and a refusal to cooperate from countries around the globe.

From Canada to the Middle East, and from Greenland to Ukraine, nations and organizations are increasingly rejecting Trump’s initiatives. Canada has outright dismissed Trump’s suggestion that it join the U.S. as the 51st state, labeling the proposal “aggressive and absurd” and reaffirming its commitment to independence and sovereignty. In a similar vein, authorities in Denmark and Greenland have unanimously rejected any discussions about selling the island, with Greenlandic representatives stating, “We don’t want to be Americans,” referencing Trump’s failed attempt in 2019.

Trump’s proposals have also met fierce resistance in the Middle East. His plan to “cleanse” the Gaza Strip of Palestinians and transform it into a “Mediterranean Riviera” has faced strong opposition from both Jordan and Egypt, with both countries refusing to accept refugees from Gaza despite U.S. pressure. Meanwhile, Hamas continues to hold hostages taken during the October 7, 2023, attacks, undeterred by Trump’s threats to “open the road to hell.” Hopes for negotiations aimed at their release have stalled, with no breakthroughs in sight.

Panama has further fueled tensions by rejecting Trump’s ultimatum to reclaim control of the Panama Canal, while also maintaining tolls on American ships. This response highlights the growing resistance to Trump’s economic threats. In Kyiv, efforts to broker peace talks with Russia—one of Trump’s stated priorities—have made no progress, with no scheduled meetings between Russian delegations and Ukrainian representatives.

Resistance is equally strong within the United States. The FBI, Pentagon, and State Department have signaled to their personnel to disregard demands from Elon Musk, head of the Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE), to report on agency activities. Musk, a close advisor to Trump, has been given oversight of federal agencies, but his attempts to interfere have been met with resistance. According to The New York Times, this internal dissent poses a significant challenge for Trump, who has yet to find a solution to this rebellion.

Amidst these mounting failures to assert control, Trump’s approval ratings have plummeted, falling below those of President Joe Biden. This decline raises concerns about the possibility of another impeachment, as the administration grapples with both external and internal challenges.
