U.S. President Donald Trump has appointed Air Force Lieutenant General Dan Kaine as the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The announcement was made on February 22, 2025, through Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.

In his statement, Trump expressed gratitude to the outgoing chairman, General Charles Brown, for his dedicated service. Brown, who served during the Biden administration, made history as the second Black military leader to hold the position, following Colin Powell, who led from 1989 to 1993.

“I highly appreciate the contributions of General Brown, who dedicated more than 40 years to the American military,” Trump remarked, acknowledging Brown as “an outstanding leader and a true gentleman.” The president extended his best wishes to Brown and his family as they embark on their next chapter.

Kaine’s nomination now awaits Senate confirmation, a crucial step in reshaping the leadership team at the Pentagon. Known by his call sign “Razin,” Kaine has a robust background in military operations, having played a pivotal role in the dismantling of the ISIS caliphate during Trump’s first term.

Trump highlighted Kaine’s proven capacity to address complex challenges swiftly and effectively, stating that his leadership comes at a critical time for the U.S. military as it navigates current global challenges. The appointment signifies a new direction in U.S. military strategy under Trump’s administration.
