ALGIERS – The Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Algeria, Mr. James Robert Stephen Downer, stated on Thursday that Algeria is an essential partner for the United Kingdom in Africa.
‘We consider Algeria to be an essential partner for the United Kingdom in Africa,’ Mr. Downer said following the ceremony of presenting his letters of credence to the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdelmadjid Tebboune, emphasizing that his government ‘is ready to move forward in strengthening its cooperation with Algeria in all areas.’
The relations between Algeria and the United Kingdom are ‘strong and based on partnership and mutual respect,’ he added, highlighting that the two countries are ‘linked by close relations in the fields of trade, defense, culture, and education.’
He also pointed out that his country has become aware of ‘the interest shown by Algerians in the use of the English language in education.’
On this occasion, the British ambassador expressed his country’s desire to ‘develop its partnership with Algeria in the fight against climate change and to address the challenges of transformation in the energy sector’ and to ‘further strengthen the dynamics of industry and services to support growth in both countries.’
‘Together, we can do more to address the various challenges facing the world today,’ the ambassador added.
He also highlighted ‘the cooperation between the two countries in the United Nations Security Council, particularly following Algeria’s accession to the presidency of this body,’ calling for the strengthening of this cooperation between both parties.
The British diplomat also expressed his wish to, through his mission in Algeria, ‘discover this unique country with its ancient history and the vitality of its youth, by visiting as many wilayas as possible to learn about Algerian geography, culture, and gastronomy.'”
